Working with Wikis

 

 

Workshop Examples
1. As an online space for committees to work collaboratively. For example, this wiki is used by the Travis Unified School District for revising the district's technology plan.
2. As a place for students to work collaboratively. For example, this wiki is used by Canadian AP Calculus students.
3. For online projects such as flatplanet.
4. As a collaborative teaching and learning tool such as Wikids.

Discuss the ideas that have been presented about wikis. Choose a typist who will summarize team responses as you report out.

 

Questions:

 

1. How can wikis be used to enrich academic? collaboration, interactive and involvement, create interest in learning

 

2. How can wikis be used to engage staff and students? yes maybe, inclusive, ; by creating more forums for students to voice their opinions and show us their learning in areas they are very comfortable in.

 

 

3. What social, legal, or ethical issues might arise with use of wikis? only when Joe is typing, it puts a lot of "pressure" on the wiki originator/deigner; posting information or pictures that are confidential, and access may be so quick they might not think their responses through.

1. How can blogs be used to enrich academic? As a math teacher I think it would be interesting to see if we can increase student participation of homework by posting a couple solutions to problems on the blog each night.

 

2. How can blogs be used to engage staff and students? Professional Learning Communities:  sharing ideas and resources.  Content areas can easily share and comment on lesson ideas.

 

 

3. What social, legal, or ethical issues might arise with use of blogs? Personal information, putdowns, negativity.  "Letters to the editor w/o signing name."  Creating fake IDs to post content.

2. How can webtop applications be used to engage staff and students? Yes, I can't read the question correctly so I keep answering it wrong. Sorry, we are working on the team upgrade to 8.5.  Some of us are real close but others are waaay back there. No worries.
