Redesigning Professional Development
Just as old paradigms for classroom instruction must change to meet the needs of today's students, we must also rethink our definition of professional development for educators. The following suggested steps are based on ideas posted by Ryan Bretag on his blog.
Five Steps to Becoming a 21st Century Learner/Educator
1. Learn something every day (Example: Converstations at http://www.converstations.com/. Lunch break PD.)
2. Establish or join a professional learning network. (Example: LearnCentral at http://learncentral.org)
3. Share an idea or resource every day (Example social bookmarking sites http://del.icio.us/ or www.diigo.com)
4. Take time to reflect--in writing--every day (Example: Start a blog)
5. Model by sharing your efforts to be a 21st century learner.
