NETS for Teachers

In order to insure that students have access to technology-supported instruction that will make a difference, teachers need to develop their skills in developing and implementing effective activities that incorporate various technologies. Think about ways teachers in your school or district use technology to support instruction.

Read the refreshed NETS for Teachers handout. How do the NETS for Teachers support student achievement? How would implementation of these standards impact your school improvement plan? What positive outcomes do you predict for teachers? What challenges might teachers face? How can you help teachers sustain effective use of technology as a tool for instruction?

Discuss your thoughts with your team. Which of the team's ideas are most important to share with the total group?

Just one person may edit a wiki page at a time. Choose a typist. When your team is ready to add its answers, the typist needs to:

1. Click the Edit button

2. Place the cursor in the space provided for the question you are answering and start typing

3. When your answer is complete, the typist needs to click the Save button.

Repeat this process until you have answered the questions below. Please make your answers as thorough and complete as possible in the given time so they can become an on-going reference for seminar participants.

1. How do the NETS for Teachers support student achievement?

Teachers incorperate their knowledge of subject matter into learning experiences for students to enrich the learning process. Teachers will promote digital work and learning experiences through modeling and facilitating current tools that address all learning styles.

2. How would implementation of these standards impact your school improvement plan?

The SIP requires teachers to incorporate technology in daily planing.  The SIP would embed etiquette and social responsibilities for social awareness.   This would lead to a greater awareness for teachers and students for the need for digital experiences.

3. What positive outcomes do you predict for teachers?

The teachers must be engaged in digital age learning to ensure the students are global learners.  All teachers would be expected to participate in professional development to foster their development of technology use in the 21st century classroom.

4. What challenges might teachers face?

Lack of professional development funds for teacher training.  Identification of useful workshops that are hands-on training.  Teachers would also need administrators who model the digital technology and provide leadership in that realm of education that would be most beneficial to the student learner.

5. How can innovations based on use of the NETS and the 21st century framework be sustained over time?

Need for sustained, free professional development for teachers and administrators.  Availability of funding through grants, federal money, etc. for the purchase of necessary technological equipment and hands-on training.
